Executive Team
Carolyn Cory
Carolyn Cory is the Executive Director of the mRLC. She has served in the roles of Superintendent, Student Services Coordinator, and Curriculum Coordinator in Southwest Horizon School Division. Carolyn has extensive experience in rural Manitoba as a K-12 classroom, resource, and reading recovery teacher. She also has considerable experience with the mRLC as a participant in numerous learning networks, as a regional advocate, and as a former Board member. Carolyn is a passionate instructional leader who champions collaborative professional learning for teachers across rural Manitoba.
Jonathan Toews
Jonathan Toews is the Network Director at the mRLC. He has served as the Executive Director of the mRLC. He has previously held the role of Assistant Superintendent of Border Land School Division, and also has extensive experience as a Principal, Vice-Principal, and Teacher in rural Manitoba. Jonathan has served on committees of the Manitoba Association of School Superintendents, including Indigenous Education and Leadership Development. Jonathan has first-hand experience with the work of mRLC as a participant in the Numeracy Achievement Program and many of our learning networks. He is passionate about teacher professional learning, rural education, and school improvement.
Janet Martell
Janet Martell is the Numeracy Director of the mRLC and also the former Superintendent of Lakeshore School Division. She is a visionary leader whose passion for education and commitment to her communities fuels her desire for high-quality learning and teaching in every classroom. She was instrumental is leading teachers through a process to reimagine education in Lakeshore School Division. Teachers, with the support of principals, developed plans, classroom-based or school-wide, that aimed to meet the needs of all learners in the school and engage them in learning.
Jess Sutherland
Jess Sutherland is the Operational Manager for the mRLC. He is a proven business leader and innovator. Working for over 15 years in senior supply chain and transportation roles. His diverse experience includes areas such as school bussing and pallet management, as well as overseeing major retail logistics divisions for companies including Walmart Canada and Loblaws Companies Ltd. Jess enjoys working with others and passing on skills whenever he is given the opportunity. He will be working closely with the Executive team, Facilitators and Participants throughout the year.
