Mark Reimer

Mark Reimer has taught grade four through Master’s level classes in four countries during his thirty years of teaching. In the early years of his career his teaching assignments changed on an almost annual basis, but since 1997 he has focused on models of reading, teaching writing, and learning theory to direct his studies as well as his instructional practice. At present Mark teaches high school ELA at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School and works as an ELA and social studies curriculum support teacher for the Hanover School Division.

Mark believes that instruction in which students can recognize the relevance, and consequently an immediate value, is the key to fostering engagement and more active learning among students. Building in a variety of choices for students regarding texts and response options provides many possibilities for creating teachable moments and interesting learning experiences for students and teachers alike.

Mark has travelled extensively, living, teaching and volunteering in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. In 2011 he founded a volunteer project called Manitoba to Ecuador so he leads groups of volunteers to Puerto Lopez every summer to connect people across cultures to enhance the lives and learning for everyone involved.
